FCRA Registration (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) is mandatory for NGOs and non-profit organizations in India that wish to receive foreign donations or contributions. It ensures transparency, accountability, and compliance in the use of foreign funds for charitable or developmental activities.
Organizations eligible for FCRA must be registered as a Trust, Society, or Section 8 Company, and must have a proven track record of functioning for at least 3 years in charitable activities before applying. There’s also a prior permission route for newly established entities seeking foreign funds for a specific project.
The process includes filing an online application with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), submitting audited financial statements, activity reports, and key organizational details. Once granted, FCRA registration is valid for 5 years and must be renewed before expiry.
FCRA registration enhances the credibility of an NGO, opens doors to international funding, and ensures that foreign contributions are used legally and effectively for social causes.
